Last week, GPA hosted a two-day @Exotek Peer Group Meeting in the Ruston office, bringing together senior leaders from seven system integration companies. Both onsite and remote participants contributed to open conversation about the state of the integration and industrial automation industry.

Our Wilmington, NC team recently took part in two engaging technical training sessions focused on advancing our understanding of modern automation and wireless technologies.

Chris Cibella from @phoenixcontactusa joined us to share the latest on their automation solutions—specifically the PLCnext Controls platform. Chris gave an in-depth look at its capabilities, including advanced control, IT/OT integration, and flexible programming. His session sparked great conversation about how PLCnext can support scalable and future-ready automation.

Shortly after, Tobias Meyer from Aunex Inc. led an interactive overview of their industrial wireless product line, with a focus on Bluetooth Low Energy (Bluetooth LE). He walked the team through how BLE can be integrated into safety and control systems, helping improve connectivity, efficiency, and workplace safety. The GPA team came ready with questions and showed strong interest in how wireless solutions can enhance plant operations.

These sessions not only built our team’s technical knowledge but also sparked ideas for how we can apply these innovations to real projects. We’re grateful for the time and insights from both Aunex and Phoenix Contact and excited to continue exploring what’s possible.

After last year’s fall food drive, we learned about a growing need in our communities—many children who rely on school lunch programs face food insecurity when school is out for the summer. That insight sparked the idea for our Summer Snack Spread, a new initiative focused on helping bridge the gap during the warmer months.

Each GPA office connected with a local organization and gathered donations based on their specific summer needs. We focused on collecting easy-to-prepare lunch and snack items that kids can enjoy throughout the day, helping ensure no child has to go without during the break.

At the recent Wi-Co North Carolina event on May 15, 2025, at the Botanical Gardens in Chapel Hill, GPA's Industrial Network and Security Architect II Scott McNeil gave an engaging presentation titled “Fun with Spectrum Analysis!” Known for his background in industrial wireless networking, McNeil walked the audience through the basics of spectrum analysis in operational technology (OT) environments, helping clarify a complex but important topic. He emphasized the critical role of spectrum analysis in identifying and mitigating interference within industrial Wi-Fi networks, which are often challenged by the separation between OT and IT systems.

McNeil's presentation was part of a diverse lineup at the Wi-Co North Carolina event, which included sessions on Wi-Fi design, network security validation, and emerging wireless technologies like Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7. The event attracted professionals from various sectors, including representatives from NetAlly, Cisco, HPE Aruba Networking, and Extreme Networks. Attendees appreciated the hands-on insights and practical knowledge shared during the sessions, particularly McNeil's demonstration of real-world spectrum analysis scenarios.

Scott McNeil's contributions to the field extend beyond this event. As the host of the "Industrial Wi-Fi Shop" podcast and an Industrial Network & Security Architect, he has consistently shared valuable insights into the challenges and solutions associated with industrial wireless networks.
