Manufacturing Intelligence is often discussed in terms of software platforms, dashboards, and data collection. While those technologies are essential, the real value comes from the people who understand manufacturing operations well enough to transform information into action.

That perspective is what Laszlo Nagy brings to GPA's Manufacturing Intelligence team. With decades of experience spanning pharmaceutical manufacturing, quality engineering, process improvement, enterprise systems, and automation, Laszlo understands both the operational realities manufacturers face and the technologies that can help solve them. His career demonstrates that the most effective Manufacturing Intelligence solutions are built when technology and real-world manufacturing expertise come together.

Outside of work, Laszlo enjoys pursuits that reflect the same curiosity and hands-on problem-solving that define his professional career. Whether building tube amplifiers, creating music, experimenting with electronics, or making mead, he is drawn to understanding how individual components work together to create something greater than the sum of their parts. That mindset carries directly into his approach to Manufacturing Intelligence, where success often depends on connecting people, processes, and technology into a cohesive system.

Building a Foundation in Manufacturing

Long before he entered the world of Manufacturing Intelligence, Laszlo Nagy was building a career rooted in manufacturing operations and quality.

After moving to the United States, he began working in the pharmaceutical industry, where he steadily advanced through roles in compounding, supervision, manufacturing management, quality, and process engineering. Over nearly two decades with one organization, he gained firsthand experience in nearly every aspect of pharmaceutical manufacturing operations.

One of his most significant responsibilities involved quality oversight and product release. In this role, Laszlo was responsible for ensuring that products met strict quality requirements before reaching the field.

"It was a very taxing position, making sure the medication that is consumed by the patient is free of any defects, has the appropriate potency, and that it would not harm people."

That environment taught him the importance of data integrity, process discipline, documentation, and continuous improvement. It also exposed him to the systems and technologies that support modern manufacturing.

Discovering the Power of Manufacturing Intelligence

As manufacturing technology evolved, Laszlo became increasingly interested in automation, reporting systems, and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).

What fascinated him was not necessarily the technology itself, but what the technology enabled. He saw how connected systems could provide operators and supervisors with the information needed to make faster, better decisions.

"I was really interested in the applications that provide operators with the tools to get their jobs done, namely the real-time visibility of virtually everything that is happening on the manufacturing floor."

Throughout his career, he worked closely with automation engineers and OT teams while leading process improvement initiatives and Six Sigma projects. He also played a key role in the implementation of an enterprise management platform that combined ERP, maintenance management, and document management capabilities. Those experiences showed him how operational technology, business systems, and manufacturing processes must work together to create real business value.

Over time, Laszlo developed a broader view of digital transformation. He realized that successful Manufacturing Intelligence initiatives are rarely about a single application or dashboard. Instead, they require a connected ecosystem that links people, processes, and technology.

Laszlo Nagy at GPA: Bridging Operations and Development

Laszlo joined GPA after connecting with members of the team through industry relationships and conversations around MES strategy and architecture. What started as a discussion about manufacturing systems quickly evolved into an opportunity to help shape GPA's Manufacturing Intelligence offerings.

Today, one of the most valuable aspects of his role is serving as a bridge between manufacturing operations and software development.

"I'm able to translate the language of manufacturing to the language of the developers and the architects. I can dissect the theoretical and present it in different real-world scenarios to better demonstrate the meaning and connections between things."

Having spent years operating within manufacturing environments, Laszlo understands the challenges faced by operators, supervisors, quality teams, and plant leadership. At the same time, he works closely with developers to ensure solutions are built around real operational requirements rather than theoretical functionality.

For him, understanding the "why" behind a system is just as important as building the system itself.

"I always go back to that 'why’. To me, it's so important."

This ability to connect business objectives, operational realities, and technical development helps GPA create solutions that are both practical and scalable.

What Manufacturing Intelligence Really Means

Many manufacturers recognize they need better visibility into their operations, but they often view Manufacturing Intelligence as a single tool or platform.

Laszlo sees it differently.

"You can't have an MES without automation. You can't have an MES without a well-built OT-IT infrastructure. You can't really have an MES without a business system. It all links up together."

In his view, Manufacturing Intelligence is not simply about collecting data. It is about creating an environment where information is accessible, meaningful, and actionable.

When properly implemented, connected manufacturing systems help organizations:

  • Improve operational visibility

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives

  • Identify production issues more quickly

  • Enhance decision-making through real-time information

  • Create stronger alignment between plant-floor operations and business objectives

  • Establish a foundation for future innovation

That philosophy aligns closely with GPA's approach to Manufacturing Intelligence: helping manufacturers move beyond disconnected systems and create a unified digital foundation that supports long-term operational growth.

Building Trust Through Partnership

While technology plays an important role in successful projects, Laszlo believes relationships are equally critical.

Having worked with numerous vendors, contractors, and technology providers throughout his career, he understands that manufacturers need confidence in the partners helping guide their transformation initiatives.

"The customer doesn't know us. It's up to us to ensure that confidence is built on a solid foundation of trust and mutual respect."

For Laszlo, successful projects are built on communication, trust, and a clear understanding of customer objectives. Technology must support those relationships, not replace them.

This belief reinforces GPA's commitment to working alongside customers as a trusted partner rather than simply providing another software solution.

Creating Solutions That Make an Impact

One of the things Laszlo enjoys most about his role is the opportunity to create solutions that deliver meaningful value for manufacturers.

"It's the feeling of creating something and the innovation that goes along with it. Being able to not just create something, but as you create it, you're innovating and making something new and exciting."

Whether helping define MES functionality, guiding solution architecture, or collaborating with development teams, he finds satisfaction in seeing concepts become tools that people use every day to improve their operations.

That combination of innovation and practical application is what continues to drive his passion for Manufacturing Intelligence.

A Career Built on Continuous Learning

One theme appears throughout Laszlo's career: continuous learning.

His path into Manufacturing Intelligence was not planned from the beginning. He entered manufacturing, gained experience across multiple disciplines, embraced new technologies, and continually expanded his understanding of how systems work together.

As a result, his advice for anyone entering manufacturing or technology is simple:

"Don't ever think that you already know everything when it comes to automation and Manufacturing Intelligence. Listen, observe, and think about ways of improving things. Learn something every day."

The manufacturing industry continues to evolve rapidly, creating new challenges and opportunities for those willing to grow alongside it. Laszlo believes in curiosity, adaptability, and a commitment to learning remain some of the most valuable traits a person can bring to the profession.

People-Powered Intelligence, Real Results

Manufacturing Intelligence is most effective when it is guided by people who understand manufacturing from the inside out.

With experience spanning manufacturing operations, quality engineering, process improvement, enterprise systems, automation, and digital transformation, Laszlo brings a uniquely practical perspective to GPA's Manufacturing Intelligence team. His ability to connect operational needs with technical solutions helps manufacturers turn information into action and complexity into clarity.

At GPA, Manufacturing Intelligence is about more than software. It is about helping manufacturers build connected, scalable systems that empower people to make better decisions, improve performance, and drive meaningful change.
