Blind spots: What You Don't Know CAN Hurt You

Bill Medcalf, GPA's Cybersecurity guru and one of the developers of GPAidentify, was asked why companies are still getting hacked even with all the tools available to us. Here's what he had to say:

Q: With so many cyber tools available today, I mean there are Firewalls, malware software and so many tools out there, why are so many companies still getting hacked?

A: Although each case is different, I think the root cause almost always comes back to a hole in the companies’ cyber strategy, a blind spot if you will. With many of the tools that are readily available on the market today, the starting point should always be to “know” what it is that you are trying to protect. This statement sounds simple enough but, in most cases, ends up being the downfall of many Cybersecurity programs.

Best practices tell us that the cyber landscape is always changing; we should always be re-evaluating our cyber strategy. To fully understand what it is we are trying to protect we must continuously reassess our environments. Manual assessments are no longer practical. In many cases, companies who fall victim to cyber attacks are missing changes in their environments which result in exposure of vulnerabilities. GPAidentify provides real-time visibility into system assets which gives facility owners the ability to perform assessments with the click of a button.
